Home Sweet Home Canvas with Tammy

For this project we will combine the sweet homespun prints of Pink Paislee's Hometown Summer collection and Wendy Vecchi's Art Parts with vintage style elements to create a sweet home themed canvas collage. We will incorporate Distress Stains, inking, and decoupage on our project to create a multi-media masterpiece perfect for decorating our homes or for gift giving.

Workshop Wednesday

Time for another mini-tutorial.  This week, I'm thinking of May Day, graduations, wedding showers, baby showers.  I love to decorate my house for any celebration.  But, let's face it, time is not necessarily on any of our sides!

This idea is so easy and literally took me minutes.  Here's what I used:

• Tim Holtz paper (comes in pink, blue or cream so works for any occassion)
• Melissa Frances Tissue Paper Garland (comes in pink, blue or cream - convenient eh?)
• Tim Holtz Paper Rosette Alterations Die (or make your own rosette by folding a long strip of paper)
• 3 eyelets and an eyelet setter (I used my Crop-A-Dile)
• Double sticky sided tape
• Distress Ink to coordinate with your paper choice
• Embellishments of your choice (optional)
• Cone pattern (available at For Keeps Sake Scrapbook)

 

NOTE:  Purchase the paper and Melissa Frances Tissue Paper Garland at For Keeps Sake and get a cone pattern free.

• Using cone pattern, trace the pattern onto your paper and cut out. I used Tim Holtz paper because it is double sided (your project will look good on the inside!) and is sturdy so no need to purchase the chipboard cones.
• Ink cut edges with coordinating Distress Ink

• Put cone together using the double sided sticky tape.

 

• Place double sided tape around the top of the cone (on the outside edge) and then add the Melissa Frances Tissue Paper Garland to the top edge.

 
 

• Die cut the rosette or cut a strip of paper measuring 12" by 2" and score at even intervals.  Once scored, fold on scores in a rotating mountain/valley pattern.  Glue two ends together and let adhesive dry.  Then (this sounds funny but ya gotta do it), smoosh the circle together in the center.  Glue center to a round piece of paper or embellishment to hold the circle together.  

 
NOTE:  I inked the edge of the rosette and used a Maya Road chipboard flower and a miscellaneous brad in the center of the rosette.  You can use anything for the center!

• Dressing up the rosette a bit more, I took another piece of Melissa Frances Tissue Paper Garland, folded it in half and put double sided tape on the fold.  This allowed me to add the garland to the back of the rosette.

 
NOTE: Since we're dealing with all these little rufflies, it's much easier if you *peel as you go* instead of peeling the entire piece of double sided tape at one time.

  

• With double sided tape, add the rosette to the front of the cone (make sure the paper seam is at the back).

 

• Add an eyelet to each side of the cone.  I also added a tiny brad at the bottom of the cone.
• Wind ribbon through the two eyelets at the top and Idea-ology baubles to the bottom.

Your cone is now ready to

fill with candy,

bridesmaids gifts

or

hang on the back of a chair for a place card.

Monday Musings . . .

Hopefully you've seen our newest endeavor, Workshop Wednesday.  Our first post is here:

Workshop Wednesday will showcase a product with ideas of how to use that product.  Last week's post demonstrated one way to use the 7 Gypsies collage tissue. 

Something new on Monday's will be Monday Musings.  These blog posts will reveal more ways to use the products introduced on Wednesday.  So you get two posts each week with ideas and techniques.

Here we go with more ideas:

7 Gypsies Collage Tissue. This takes me back to my Girl Scout days.  Remember the tissue flowers we used to make?  You can do an upscale tissue flower with the 7 Gypsies Collage Tissue . . . and have your choice of beautiful birds with music, or Eiffel towers or . . .

 
 

First, cut strips of collage tissue. The length and width of the strips will be determined by how large you want the flowers to be.  You will be scrunching up the tissue paper later, so make the strips wider and longer than the final product.

This works a little backwards, but I first decide how big I want my flower and then cut the strips a bit longer and wider.  I also used pinking shears to cut the strips so that I'd have a decorative edge.

 

Stack all the strips on top of one another and tie in the center.  I used a piece of string.  You will not see this when complete.

 

Ruffle and crinkle the layers.  You will have a really fluffly flower, ready for a scrapbook page, bookfront or a banner.

Here's a couple more collage tissue flower ideas for you to try:

 

Using a large circle scallop punch, you can punch several layers of tissue at one time.

Layer the tissue circles on top of one another

 

and add a brad to the center.

Separate the layers and scrunch up the ends.

 

Your flower is ready to be added to a card front 

or

go one step further:

 

Attach the flower to a skewer by bending the ends of the brad

around the skewer.

Add a leaf

and you're ready for a long lasting springtime bouquet.

The black envelope on the left side holds a tri-fold mini *album*.  We'll decorate the large vintage vinyl and you'll have plenty of leftovers to use on the tri-fold mini where you can house photos or journaling.

When the LP is complete, it will be sturdy enough to stand up (with the help of your stand) on a bookshelf, counter or desk top.
