Workshop Wednesday presents Simple Layers:
Supplies used:
- tag
- Claudine Hellmuth's Matte Medium
- sponge brush for Matte Medium
- 7 Gypsies Tissue Paper
- K&Company layered die-cuts (some are now on sale @ For Keeps Sake!)
- Crafty Secrets images
- Distress Inks: Wild Honey; Vintage Photo; Rusty Hinge
- Stickles
- Ink Applicators
- Craft mat
- Tim Holtz Tonic Scissors + Edge Distresser
- Favorite background stamp
- Memento Cocoa Ink
- Tim Holtz Memo Pin
Step 1: Ink your favorite background stamp with Memento Cocoa Ink and stamp tag. Don't worry about missing stampings. You're going to cover most of the stamping anyway. This just provides another layer to the tag.
Step 2: Using an ink applicator and working on a craft mat, ink the tag with Wild Honey Distress Ink. When inking, I tend to put more ink towards the edges and less ink in the center of the project so that whatever you put in the center is highlighted. It also makes the edges look darker and a bit more rustic. Next add Rusty Hinge to the very edge of the tag.
Just in case you're new to this *inking thing*, brush the ink applicator on top of the ink pad. Next, starting on your craft mat, work in a circular motion and work from the craft mat onto the tag, pressing the ink into the tag.
Step 3: Add the 7 Gypsies tissue paper. (I am in love with this tissue paper! There are so many applications.) Tear the tissue paper into small pieces and adhere to top of tag using Claudine Hellmuth's Matte Medium. Working on your craft mat, apply the Matte Medium to the back of the tissue paper with a sponge brush. Gently pick up the tissue paper from the mat and place onto the front of the tag. It's OK to layer tissue paper on top of tissue paper. You don't need an exact plan for this - just layer - freely!
Step 4: Using a Tim Holtz for Tonic Edge Distresser, drag distresser along the edges of your tag.
Step 5: With Vintage Photo Distress Ink and an ink applicator, ink the *distressed* edges of the tag.
Step 6: Choose your favorite images from K&Co's dimensional stickers. I chose Susan Winget's Botanical line. These are beautifully detailed! I cut an egg from one of Crafy Secrets images and added Stickles to the front to bling it up a bit. Wrap ribbon around the tag and tie a tiny bow at the front. The egg was then attached to a Memo Pin and through the ribbon.

Love the tag - love the tutorial. I think this is a GREAT idea. Would like to see new products incorporated into the tutorials as you did with the tissue paper. We see the products, they look great, but we don't always know how or where we could use them. Seeing them used on a project would be just the thing to get the creative juices working. Thanks for the ideas.

Love, love the idea of Workshop Wednesdays! I have been frustrated about not being able to participate in some of the in-store classes lately, and LOVE to see new ideas/techniques! Of course, my first stop for supplies is always FKS!
