Workshop Wednesday . . .
Hi everyone! Nancy here with another Workshop Wednesday. Today's workshop will focus on a boy layout. When my son was young, it was hard to find papers that were boy oriented. They all looked the same to me. Today, For Keeps Sake is offering a different boy idea using Graphic 45 papers. Meet Luke, my newest Grand-Nephew:
Here he is in his Easter finery with his beautiful Mom . . . doing his own little Easter parade thing.
In this layout, I wanted to create a *stage* of sorts. So I used Graphic 45 Le Cirque and cut all around the curtain (inside and outside). The inside portion was cut with a craft knife on a glass mat. If you ever want to do fussy-cuts that are difficult to get to with a scissors, this is the way to go. Glass mats allow the knife to glide. Work that knife the same way you would a scissors i.e., turn the paper as you're cutting. (Most want to turn the knife and you end up all contorted.)
Using 3 pieces of Bazzill cardstock in coordinating colors, I adhered Luke's photo to the cardstock and placed that in the stage window.
Once the Le Cirque paper was cut, I inked the edges with Black Soot Distress Ink. In those teeny areas I couldn't get to, I used a black Copic Marker. Then took some really thick chipboard (Bazzill makes this and For Keeps Sake carries it.) and cut it into strips. Layered three strips (one on top of another), inked the edges in Black Soot and mounted those on the back of the Le Cirque cut paper.
The Le Cirque paper was then adhered to the center top of Times Nouveau Copacetic.
Using Le Cirque Wizards of Wonder, Borders and Greatest Show On Earth, I added just a couple of embellishments to the layout. Loving that strip from the Le Cirque Borders paper, that, of course, had to be added. It's great for any baby page or a page where you child is doing something fabulous . . .
because they are amazing and astonishing and full of wonder.
and sometimes the greatest show on earth.
Hope this gives you an idea that is a bit out-of-the-box for those baby boys.

Monday Musings . . .
Last week we showed you how to use Idea-ology ring binder system in a book. Today, we have another idea for you.
Don't know about your house but in ours, there are still deadlines, appointments and all sorts of things to forget. Those notes get posted on the fridge - something I really don't like. It looks so messy to me to have all sorts of things posted on the fridge. So I came up with this idea.
It's a little bulletin board that measures 11" tall x 7.5" wide and it's magnetic. I found this at Good Will for $2 but I know they're available at office supply stores. The original price tag on this was $4 - still cheap thrills.
To decorate, I chose paper and the months of the year from Glitz (available at For Keeps Sake). These are colorful papers and cardstock months that can be used for any year. To each month I added coordinating cardstock. The cardstock measures 6" wide x 9.25" tall.
Here's how:

The Idea-ology ring binder was added to the top of this mini-bulletin with red line tape.

Cut paper to size, punch holes with a Crop-A-Dile

Add Glitz months of the year cardstock
How easy is that! You're now ready to add your own notes, pin appointments to the bulletin board and add to-do's and forget-me-nots to each page.
Wouldn't this make a cute Christmas gift? And it can be completed in under an hour! Add photos to delight a Grandparent or hang a pen with ribbon from the binding so you may easily add your own notes.

This week @ For Keeps Sake . . .
Happy Mother's Day, we are CLOSED today to spend time with our families. We will be OPEN regular hours tomorrow, May 9!

Create Your Imagination with Nancy

- Book trades are due. Everyone who wanted to trade (nothing is mandatory in this group!) brought in a book with a title that meant something to them. We traded books so that you received someone else's book. Take that person's book home and alter the cover according to the title of the book.
- Each month, we will have a tutorial by a guest speaker (which means one of us) who will show us how to alter a book page. This month's guest speaker is Bonnie Heggemann. She has give me a supply list which will follow below.
- Paint Tins: Sue V suggested we work on altering paint tins. You remember those little tins with circular paints inside and a really cheap paint brush. If you found one, bring it in and trade to alter.
- Show 'n' Tell: What did you create this month? Bring it in and let us see. We love to share ideas.
